Handshake Across the Tamar
To build links with our neighbours and share experiences, Landulph Climate Group, caught the train from Gunnislake crossing the Tamar over the Calstock viaduct. With a groupsave ticket of £3.20 each and free parking we soon arrived at the lovely old station of Bere Ferrers. We were welcomed by representatives from the Parish Council who showed us the memorial to the 10 New Zealand soldiers killed in an accident at the station. We began our visit by walking a section of the new Coast to Coast path that has brought more visitors to Bere Ferrers. The path took us through familiar fields and reed beds with views of Cargreen. Tired and ready for lunch we met up at The Plough for a lovely meal and a lengthy chat sharing ideas about our parishes. We have so much in common despite being in Devon and a bigger parish which includes Bere Alston. They were interested in our nature recovery work. We visited the quay and their lovely spacious recreation ground which includes a tennis court, table tennis table, zip wire, orchard and a loo; lots of ideas for us. After a quick visit to the church (dating back to 1258) it was time to catch the train home. We hope to welcome Bere Ferrers Parish Council to visit Landulph soon.
